To be held from Friday 15 to Sun 17, November 2024 at the Federation Square, this vibrant event showcases the best of African culture through live music, dance performances, traditional fashion shows, and a bustling marketplace overflowing with authentic crafts and delectable African cuisine. Afrofeast has previously attended this event at the Federation Square as food vendor and can attest to its vibrancy. • Sydney African Festival:

• To be held this spring on Saturday 28 September 2024 at the beautiful Cathy Freeman Park, the Sydney African Festival brings the spirit of Africa to the heart of Sydney. Expect a vibrant celebration of music, dance, art, and food, with a focus on showcasing the diverse cultures represented in Sydney’s African community. Don’t miss the opportunity to sample delicious dishes from across the continent and witness the energy and passion of African dance performances. Highlights: Music, dance, art, food stalls.

Both Melbourne and Sydney festivals listed above are FREE, so don’t get silly excuses not to attend.

2. Regional/State Events

Beyond the major cities, Australia’s African communities come alive with a range of regional events and festivals throughout the year. Here are a few highlights to keep an eye out for:

• Perth African Nations Football and Sports

3. The Hood Afrobeats Events

The beauty of African cultural celebrations lies not only in large-scale annual festivals but also in the smaller, intimate, regular ones. Many of these Afrobeats event organisers do not have websites. To know about them you must follow them on social media.

In Sydney Sounds of Afrobeats stands out, while in Brisbane we have Brisbane Afrobeats Festival and Brisbane Afro Events. In Perth there’s the Perth Afrobeats Takeover and Sounds of One Nation, and in Melbourne the Blv Dynasty, and many more.
